They are castles which were built during the Renaissance and Baroque periods by old families who were often instrumental in the history of Europe. They were embellished in the elaborate style of these times, but their origins often go back to the 12th and 13th century.

Anyone can become an owner of such a castle, in Germany foreign nationals can own property outright.  Our associate in Germany specializes in the acquisition of castles and their renovation. In the past our associate has renovated castles used a private residences, retirement homes, small hotels or B&B's or as a 4 or 5 star hotel. By letting us know how large a castle you want, what you want to do with it and what your budget is, we can suggest castles which will fit your interest. If you are interested in one or more properties our associate can assemble a portfolio for you and then take you on a viewing trip on which he will be your consultant in all matter concerning the purchase, condition and renovation of the castle. In the 12th century a massive castle surrounded by a  moat was built on this spot. In 1413 the castle and the territory went to the margraves of Meissen, member of the Wettin Dynasty, the oldest and one of the most powerful dynasties in Germany. The name Schweinsburg stems from the many wild boar that roamed the forests around the castle. Over the centuries the castle changed owners several times as it was mostly used for private purposes.  From 1900 to 1908 it housed a pottery factory in one of the wings. However, growing dept forced the present owner to sell the castle to a wealthy yarn merchant from the nearby city of Zwickau who lived there until 1945 when the Russian army occupied the castle.
